Bungee Jumping and Ziplining in Rishikesh: A First-Timer's Guide

The 83 m bungee platform at Mohan Chatti, about 25 km from Rishikesh, is one of the highest in India. It juts out over a forested river gorge, and the same site has a long zipline across the valley. If you have never jumped before, here is what to expect.
Before you book
- Weight limits: bungee cords are rated for a weight range, usually around 40 to 110 kg. You will be weighed on the day, so book with your real weight.
- Age: jumpers usually need to be at least 12 years old, and minors need a parent's consent. The exact limits are on the adventure page.
- Health: do not jump if you have heart conditions, high blood pressure, back or neck injuries, epilepsy, recent surgery or if you are pregnant. You will sign a health declaration.
How the day works
- Reach the meeting point at your slot time. Many operators run a pickup from Rishikesh; the meeting point is on your ticket.
- Check-in: show your ID and booking, sign the form and get weighed.
- Briefing: the jump master explains the harness, the body position and the count.
- Harness and checks: you are fitted with a full-body harness and ankle attachment. Every connection is checked twice.
- The jump: stand at the edge, look ahead, not down, and jump on the count. After a few bounces you are lowered or pulled back up.
The whole thing takes 1 to 2 hours including waiting, but the jump itself is over in seconds.
What to wear
- Comfortable clothes that will not fly up: track pants or jeans and a fitted T-shirt.
- Closed shoes that are tied tight.
- No loose jewellery, caps or anything in your pockets. Spectacles must be strapped or left behind.
Bungee or zipline?
If the free fall feels like too much, the zipline is a great alternative: you sit in a harness and fly across the valley at speed, with no drop. Many groups split up, with some jumping and some ziplining, then meet at the café on top. You can also book both.
Make a day of it
Mohan Chatti is on the same side of the river as Shivpuri, so you can jump in the morning and raft or check in to a riverside camp in the afternoon. See our Rishikesh travel guide for a two-day plan.
